Korea’s In Mo Yang wins the Paganini Prize International violin competition

In Mo Yang, a Korean not yet 20 years old, triumphed on the stage of the Carlo Felice Theatre in Genoa and won the final of the Paganini Prize on Sunday, March 8, 2015 in front of a large crowd of music enthusiasts and experts.

In Mo Yang’s triumph was total: although he was the youngest of the six finalists, who were also very young (the “oldest” was born in 1989), the Korean musician also won the lesser prizes, including that of the Amici del Conservatorio, the Carlo Felice Theatre prize, that for the youngest competitor, that for the best execution of the piece specially written for the competition by Ivan Fedele and, dulcis in fundo, that awarded by the public!

Second was the Japanese Fumika Mohri, followed by the 20-year-old German Albrecht Menzel, who was very sparkling and electric. Fourth place went to Russian Diana Pasko, followed by Chinese-American Elly Suh and finally Lettonian Dainis Medianikis.

After the various performances, the jury immediately met and prizes were awarded with Mayor Marco Doria, education councillor Pino Boero and Luisa Longhi of Bracco Foundation, Main Sponsor of the event.

The final was an event not just for the city of Genoa, which welcomed back the competition after a five-year absence with enthusiasm and participation, but also an international media event: the final phase of the hardfought competition was transmitted in streaming in 53 countries.

Well done In Mo Yang and a big welcome to our Diventerò community!
