- Valore Cultura Project – Strategic Development of Italy’s Private Cultural Sector
2024 - in progress
Promoted by the Bracco Foundation, Fondazione Golinelli and Fondazione Luigi Rovati, the Valore Cultura project is an authoritative platform for Italy's privately constituted cultural institutions and public-private partnerships.
The project starts from the firm conviction that Italy’s private cultural sector is a strategic resource spread across the country, with the power to have a real impact on the economy and society in local communities and across Italy as a whole.
The platform is designed to help unlock this considerable potential, providing a stable forum for dialogue and exchange between public and private actors, while developing new thinking and practical tools to support a sector that plays a central role in Italy’s identity and socioeconomic development.
To achieve these goals, the Valore Cultura project:
- Keeps public and private cultural organisations in regular, constructive dialogue on the main challenges facing the sector, helping them exchange ideas and share best practices;
- Develops shared proposals and visions to support the growth of the cultural sector and strengthen its role;
- Helps new knowledge circulate within the Community, broadening the skills and expertise of participating organisations;
- Creates opportunities for cultural operators, organisations and institutions to exchange experience and build high-quality professional networks;
- Works towards shared positions on strategic issues, giving cultural institutions a stronger voice and role in the national debate;
- Carries out advocacy work to raise awareness among institutions, businesses and civil society of the importance of Italy’s private cultural sector and the impact it can generate.
Social and Economic Impact Index
Launched in 2024, the Valore Cultura project swiftly created opportunities for exchange on the relationship between culture and local areas, while also beginning work on an index to measure the social and economic impact of cultural enterprises.
During the pilot phase, the project carried out audience research on a significant sample covering more than 500 cultural experiences, looking at visitors’ motivations, satisfaction and perceived value. This research led to an innovative model that combines economic and social assessment of cultural experiences. It identified the key factors that shape a cultural experience — satisfaction, emotional and cognitive engagement, and the likelihood that visitors will share the experience or return — and used them to build a Composite Social Value Index that helps interpret different visitor behaviours. The result is a valuable scientific tool that can be used in guiding future cultural policy.
Presentation of the Results from the First Phase of the Valore Cultura Project
On 19 November 2025, Palazzo Visconti, home of the Bracco Foundation, hosted the presentation of the results from the project’s first phase. The event brought together the partners and a number of leading figures from Italy’s cultural sector. Entitled “The Value of the Private Cultural Sector in Italy”, the meeting focused on three main areas of work: the Observatory tracking the development of private cultural organisations; the development of new tools to support the sector’s day-to-day work and help unlock its value; and a series of studies on specific issues of national importance.
The publication of the results marks an important step in the Community’s work, which now continues with the aim of building a stronger, more cohesive cultural ecosystem capable of generating value for communities.
