Bracco Foundation was in 2011 official sponsor of the restoration carried out by the Soprintendenza PSAE e per il Polo Museale di Roma of the 17th century Gallery of Pope Alessandro VII Chigi in the Palazzo nel Quirinale, official residence of the Presidency of the Republic.
In the 150th anniversary year of the Unification of Italy one of the finest pieces of Roman Baroque was brought back to light: thanks to restoration work that brought back the important painted decoration of the walls and the reopening of the windows, the unity of the design by Pietro da Cortona was at last recovered. The environments of the Alessandro VII Gallery return to their original lighting, allowing the osmosis between exterior and interior that seemed to be the design concept of the great maestro, a model for all later European galleries starting with that of Versailles. The book La Galleria di Alessandro VII recounts in splendid images and text by the curators this restoration, with particular attention to the history of the Palazzo and the Gallery, their artistic wealth and the work done to bring it back to its original splendour. The book is not on sale.
