The photographic exhibition “A Life in Sport: The Faces and Achievements of 100 Female Experts”, a brainchild of the Bracco Foundation that is being sponsored by Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, celebrates the contribution of women to the world of sport, promotes gender equality, and counters the stereotypes that continue to restrict the visibility of women.
The exhibition, which is centred around the work of the renowned photographer Gerald Bruneau, tells the stories of Italian women included among the top 100 women performers and achievers (#100esperte) in the world of sports: multiple medal winners, paralympic champions, top managers of sports bodies, and activists for rights and inclusion. The photographs capture not only the professional achievements of the subjects, but also something of the passion, challenges, and positive societal impact of their efforts.
On the occasion of the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan Cortina 2026, the President of the International Olympic Committee, Kirsty Coventry, a key figure for the global future of sport, will be included in the constantly evolving exhibition as the first woman and the first African to hold such a role.
The aim of the exhibition is to raise awareness among the general public of the need for a fair and inclusive representation of women in sport. In this respect, it ties in with the Cultural Olympiad, a multidisciplinary programme organized for the coming Winter Olympics and Paralympics that is being run by Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026.
The initiative is part of the broader 100 Women Countering Stereotypes (#100esperte) project of Osservatorio di Pavia and Associazione Gi.U.LI.A, the former a research institute and the latter a journalists’ association supported by the Bracco Foundation that compiles profiles of women professionals across several fields to promote their visibility and to counterbalance the media’s tendency to listen predominantly to male voices.
