Winners of the 6th “Ora di scienza!” [Science Hour] call for projects

Fondazione Bracco proudly presents the winners of the 6th edition of the Ora di Scienza! Call, an inclusive educational project designed to promote scientific skills and enhance the local school system. The panel of judges appreciated the depth of effort shown by the students and teachers who participated in this latest  "Bracco for schools” project.

Area of Focus: The  Environment

Project SMILE

International Project coordinated by the San Giuseppe Calasanzio Comprehensive Institute of Milan and created with IES Pedro Álvarez Sotomayor - Spain and 1st Experimental Junior High school of N. Ionia of Magnesia - Greece.

The project involved 50 students from classes 3D, 2B and 2AB ESO.

Teacher: Alessandro Guffanti

Jury’s reasons:

The submission demonstrates the dedication of teachers and students to  addressing the environmental challenges facing our planet. It is a comprehensive research project that also demands creative thinking, sensitivity and strong teamwork skills.

Project created by Classes 2A, 2B and 2C of the elementary school of ‘Rebecchi Institute of Gambolò Pavia

Teacher: Eleonora Cappa

Jury’s reasons:

Creative and original, the work scrutinizes the question of waste recycling with the sort of attention to detail that the subject warrants. The 60 participating children undertook to address a strategic topic through their own sensibility.

Jury’s reasons:

Recognized for its originality, for the sensitivity evinced by the pupils in addressing the gender gap issue, and for the comprehensiveness of the topics covered.

Project created by Class 2F of the A.M. Scientific High School De Carlo di ​Napoli

Teacher: Catherine Rainone

Jury’s reasons:

The students made up podcasts in which they simulated interviews with prominent female scientists. Their creative and original storytelling was also a demonstration of the effectiveness of teamwork.

Special mentions

The Jury also decided to make special mentions of four schools for their hard work and for the quality of the content they produced, albeit without winning a prize.

  • Area of Focus: The Environment: Istituto Comprensivo Kennedy [high school] of Reggio Emilia for the numerous projects sent and, in particular for the poster The Future in Our Hands | Teacher: Giuseppina Cardillo.

NUMBERS TAKING PART

The sixth edition saw the participation of 1,142 students from 85 classes in 65 schools. It succeeded in its stated aims of encouraging students to appreciate the importance of STEM subjects and research, promoting collaborative teaching, and making the most of local school systems that have successfully deployed innovative teaching methods.
