Diana Bracco inaugurates the “Prime Donne” exhibition in Brescia
Until December 28 in Palazzo Martinengo Colleoni in Brescia the costumes of the leading ladies of the operas of Verdi and Puccini will be on show stop.
“PrimeDonne - The women of Puccini and the heroines of Verdi” is the exhibition that until December 28 will exhibit the most beautiful costumes of the leading ladies of the operas of Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini.
The exhibition was inaugurated yesterday evening in Palazzo Martinengo Colleoni by the president of the Bracco Foundation Diana Bracco and by Giuseppe Ambrosi, president of the Brescia Chamber of Commerce.
Violetta, Desdemona, Elisabetta, Mimì, Tosca, are characters that live in the popular imagination, made immortal by the music with which Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini brought them to life. Both for the women of Puccini, at the centre of all his operas, full of fascination, seduction and passion, and for the Verdi heroines who are also figures full of passion but often tormented and in the hands of their destiny, the costume is a characteristic element that identifies them and impresses them on our memory.
Thanks to this exhibition, promoted by the Bracco Foundation headed by Diana Bracco and R Scala Theatre Academy and mounted in collaboration with Brend-Brescia Nuove Direzioni, the public will be able to admire the splendid costumes and relive thrilling moments of Italian opera between the 19th and 20th centuries.
The exhibition comes from the fusion of two exhibitions already presented in Milan and in Villa Bertelli, Forte dei Marmi, and shows the costumes produced in the La Scala laboratories by students of the theatre costume course of the La Scala Theatre Academy on the basis of the original designs.
“This exhibition,” said Diana Bracco, president of Bracco Foundation, “is part of the multi-year collaboration project between our Foundation and La Scala Academy to support the younger generation and emerging talents in the scientific and artistic field. With the exhibition of the costumes made by students of the theatre costume course, we wanted to bring attention to the great Italian tradition of high craftsmanship, a true excellence of Italian know-how. Personally I find stage costumes fascinating and they have always had a particular fascination for my imagination as a music lover. ‘PrimeDonne’ is a unique exhibition that makes it possible to make first-hand contact with the fabrics of the heroines of Verdi and Puccini.”
During her intervention president Diana Bracco also recalled that “to Brescia and its ‘Leones’ I am particularly indebted for all they did for the Italy Pavilion and for Expo Milan as a whole. Without our friends of the Orgoglio Brescia consortium we would never have been able to offer the world the incredible spectacle of the Tree of Life, a real example of our entrepreneurial excellence.”
The exhibition can be visited from December 3-28, 2015 at Palazzo Martinengo Colleoni, Via Moretto da Brescia, 78 – Brescia. Admittance is free every day from 10 AM to 8 PM (closed on Tuesdays).
