Views of Venice by Canaletto ano his rivals in landmark exhibition at National Gallery of Art, Washington, the sole U.S. venue

The National Gallery of Art, Washington, will present 21 of Canaletto's finest paintings of Venice with 34 by his most important contemporaries, including Gaspar Vanvitelli, Luca Carlevarijs, Michele Marieschi, Bernardo Bellotto, and Francesco Guardi, in Venice: Canaletto and His Rivals, on view from February 20 through May 30 , 2011 , in the East Building.

Bracco Foundation and National Italian American Foundation call for submissions

(Washington, D.C. – March12, 2014) The Bracco Foundation, in cooperation with the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), is pleased to announce a $100,000 NIAF scholarship dedicated to the study of “Iodine-Deficiency Awareness Among Healthcare Professionals and Mothers in the U.S.A.”  Italian Americans and Italian citizens with permanent residency in the United States, who hold post- graduate degrees including a Ph.D., M.D. or MSc, have an expertise in endocrinology or nutrition, and are no more than 35 years of age at the time of the application deadline, are invited to submit their applications. Deadline: June 30, 2014.

Accademia Teatro alla Scala in the USA for the first time to celebrate the year of Italian culture

During the Year of Italian Culture in the United States, the soloists and the Orchestra of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala will be in the USA for the first time with two concerts conducted by Maestro Daniele Rustioni. Thanks to the support of Bracco Foundation, the young Italian musicians will perform in Chicago first, then at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda (near Washington, D.C.) on December 4.

Farnesina Palace and its Collections

For the first time ever, the art works in the Farnesina Collection and the installations of the Farnesina Design Collection are to be seen outside the building that has housed Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs – the country’s diplomatic heart – since 1959. The works will be shown in a special exhibition, “Farnesina Palace and its Collections”, promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Department for the Promotion of the Country System.

Leonardo da Vinci Manuscript on View at National Air and Space Museum

“Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex on the Flight of Birds,” possibly one of the world’s most famous notebooks, goes on view Friday, Sept. 13, at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum for a 40-day exhibit, ending Oct. 22.
